Car history:
1959 Corvette $140,000

Frame off rotisserie restoration.

Only 2,700 miles since restoration.

Restoration.

The body was removed from the frame and then the original frame was replaced with a new Art Morrison frame. Morrison, of Washington State, builds these frames from C6 Corvette front suspensions and brakes and a four-link rear suspension with Wilwood brakes and a huge differential (Ford 9 inch). You can learn about these frames by visiting the Morrison website: http://artmorrison.com/3gvette.php

The body was removed from the original frame and I decided to replace the frame to have a more modern and safer driving experience. The body was completely refurbished by Walden Dahl of Victorville, CA. Mr. Dahl fixed a few areas with new fiberglass, sanded the entire body, put on two coats of gel-coat, sanding after each, put on two coats of primer, sanding after each coat, then two coats of color and two coats of clear-coat. Then the car was color-sanded. The color is Boyd Coddington red. The car was originally blue, but had been painted Roman Red when I purchased it from the widow of the first owner back in 2003. It had been in her garage since his death about 10 years previously.

The engine was hand-assembled by Lang Pacuilli owner of LP Racing using all new high-performance high-end components. The engine was not built to racecar specs but to street specs, so it is easy to drive, yet powerful. The engine was then trucked to Walden Dahl where it was attached to the new five-speed transmission and then installed onto the new Morrison frame.

The body, just painted and color-sanded was then attached to the frame, and the car was trucked to LP Racing. At the latter shop, the minor engine components, such as the alternator, cooling system, and wiring harness were installed. LP then tuned the engine, adjusted the suspension, aligned the wheels, and returned the car to me. The entire restoration took over 2 years! During the time I have had the car back, I have continued to make improvements to the car. For example, I have added year-of-manufacture license plates, license plate lights, stronger springs in the trunk, radio antenna, more accurate fuel gauge, and other improvements.

Paint

The car is Boyd Coddington Red, which is a cleaner, sharper, less orange, red than the old Roman Red. I decided on this color after visiting Coddingtons facility, speaking to him, and seeing a car there painted this color. The paint is made by Dupont and is readily available.

Features

This car has power disc brakes, power steering, five-speed Tremac transmission, hydraulic clutch, and 350 cubic inch 400 (estimated) horsepower engine. It has a radio that looks original but, in addition to the AM band, also has an FM band and has a port for a CD player or iPod.

The car has an aftermarket electric windshield wiper that is a great improvement over the original. The windshield is tinted, something not available on Corvettes back in 1959. The seats are leather and much more comfortable than the plastic ones from the time. The aftermarket seats look original.

The car has two engine fans. In addition to the usual mechanical fan that runs directly off the engine, there is a second electric fan that activates when the engine reaches a certain temperature. The car will not overheat, even on a hot day in stop and go driving.

The wheels and tires are larger in order to house the much larger and stronger brakes and the increased horsepower and torque.

Except for these wheels and the superior color, the outside of the car looks exactly like it did back in 1959. The engine compartment is a somewhat different due to the electronic ignition, alternator, larger engine, larger radiator with dual fans, and larger air cleaner.

The car is amazing, feels modern, and everything works.

This car is registered and titled in California and has a license plate from the era with black letters and numbers on orange background. A California buyer can continue to use these plates.

More

There is no top. It came with one, but the original owner had kept it outside his garage and, apparently, moved it around often. It was not worth the effort to restore. Plus, I live in Orange County, California, where no top is needed.

If you want the car

I have spent $185,500 on this car and my Buy It Now price of $140,000 represents a loss. Maybe I was too liberal with my checkbook, but that is what is in it, including what I paid for the car. The reserve is a little below the "Buy It Now" price.
